Serving our community and beyond

Living the Great Commission

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

At Highpoint our goal in missions is to form strategic partnerships with organizations who are able to reach people we cannot reach without help and offer them resources to help reach people they cannot reach without our help.  We also know that if our work is to be sustained, it will happen through the viability of the local church.  Therefore, we want to partner with organizations whose work strengthens a local church or a network of local churches.

At the same time, our focus is to use every mission experience to equip participants for a lifetime of service to God and to personally live out the great commission.  Rarely will you find an individual who has had an international, cross-cultural mission experience that will not say it radically changed their perspective of this world and of their purpose in it.  Each mission experience is designed to equip participants with specific skills and provide them a larger, more complete world view.

Globally, Highpoint church has spent time on 5 continents; working in China, Indonesia, India, Germany, Uruguay, Brazil, and Uganda.  Our goal in Global missions is to create ongoing relationships where, through leaders in a region, we can have a continuing impact in a community.

In the Spring of 2009 we will be taking a trip of students and young singles to the Bahamas to participate in outreach ministry in partnership with a local church on the Island of Eleuthera.  In the Fall of 2009 we will be returning to Uganda in Africa.  Stay tuned for more information on that trip!

Locally, we serve as a church at the Memphis Union Mission every month.  We have the opportunity to prepare meals for around 200 men and worship and share the gospel with them 12 times per year.  Also, through a partnership with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) we serve athletes and other students at Overton High School by attending athletic events, sharing devotions, tutoring and mentoring several times a week.
